Carr\u2019s career ended early as a result of a right shoulder injury.<\/p>\n<p>With Carr retired, the Saints\u2019 quarterback room now features rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/ranking-10-worst-qb-rooms-in-nfl-and-predicting-who-will-start-in-week-1-steelers-colts-browns-on-top\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:CBS Sports;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">CBS Sports<\/a> recently tabbed the Pittsburgh Steelers with the worst quarterbacks room in the NFL, but the Saints\u2019 crops of QBs might be worse now without Carr. The Saints previously were ranked with the seventh-worst QBs room. The Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans and New York Jets were right behind the Steelers on the list.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers\u2019 looming decision. However, with Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Skylar Thompson as the current trio, it\u2019s hard to disagree with CBS Sports\u2019 assessment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pittsburgh Steelers have the worst quarterback room in the entire NFL after completely turning over at the position in each of the last two years,\u201d Garrett Podell of CBS Sports wrote. \u201cMason Rudolph, a third-round pick of the Steelers in 2018, returns home after a year away with the Tennessee Titans in 2024. He threw nine touchdowns and nine interceptions across eight played last season, which included five starts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkylar Thompson comes to the Steelers after three seasons as Tua Tagovailoa\u2019s backup with the Miami Dolphins. He has one passing touchdowns and three interceptions in 10 games played, including three starts. The rookie in the room is Will Howard, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after helping lead Ohio State to a national championship in his fifth season of college football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Podell projects that Will Howard will be the Steelers\u2019 Week 1 starter, unless Rodgers comes to town.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHead coach Mike Tomlin ends up uninspired by both Rudolph and Thompson, which leads to Howard seizing the job after continuing the growth he showed as a passer as a Buckeye. That is unless Aaron Rodgers<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/aaron-rodgers-future-art-rooney-ii-says-steelers-may-get-answer-from-qb-soon-shedeur-sanders-available\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:joins the team after visiting the team\u2019s facility earlier;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> joins the team after visiting the team\u2019s facility earlier<\/a> in the offseason,\u201d Podell wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Rudolph, 29, was selected with the No. 76 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Steelers. He spent the first six years of his career in Pittsburgh before joining the Tennessee Titans in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth gave Rudolph a r<a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/article\/mason-rudolph-glad-back-pittsburgh-184739590.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:inging endorsement;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inging endorsement<\/a> during an interview on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qOao9VdaFMY\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kaboly + Mack;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kaboly + Mack<\/a> podcast last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs guys on the team, we have all the belief in Mason,\u201d Freiermuth said. \u201cYou know he made some big plays when he was here last, winning three straight games to make the playoffs. Obviously, we\u2019re excited about having Mason Rudolph back,\u201d Tomlin said at the NFL owner\u2019s meetings. \u201cOur knowledge of him not only as a player but as a man. It\u2019s exciting to have him back and I know he\u2019s excited to be back. But, certainly, we are going to explore all our options to round that room out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tomlin thinks Rudolph\u2019s lengthy experience with the team is his best attribute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s why we re-acquired him,\u201d Tomlin said. \u201cWe like Mason Rudolph, but, you know, that\u2019s no secret. \u2026 His experience within our building certainly helps.
