The Tennessee Titans<\/a> are adding former San Diego Chargers<\/a> coach and long-time NFL offensive assistant Mike McCoy to their staff as a senior offensive assistant<\/a>, the team announced<\/a> Thursday, giving coach Brian Callahan an experienced confidant to bolster the operation.<\/p>\n

McCoy was the Chargers’ coach from 2013-16, posting two winning seasons and making the playoffs one time. He was also the Denver Broncos<\/a> offensive coordinator from 2009-12 and in 2017 and served as the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>‘ offensive coordinator in 2018. He spent the past three seasons in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n

McCoy overlapped with Callahan for three seasons in Denver and worked with Titans offensive coordinator Nick Holz in Jacksonville in 2023.<\/p>\n

What Tennessee Titans<\/a> coaching staff adds with Mike McCoy<\/p>\n

One of the major things the Titans’ staff was lacking in 2024 was experience at the top. Callahan, Holz, defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and special teams coordinator Colt Anderson were all first-timers in their posts.<\/p>\n

Now Callahan, Holz and Wilson are heading into Year 2 in their respective positions, Anderson has been replaced with long-time special teams coordinator John Fassel and the Titans are surrounding their operation with veteran minds like McCoy who can bounce ideas off the younger figures in charge.<\/p>\n

Combine the McCoy and Fassel hires with the additions of assistant GM Dave Ziegler and football advisor Reggie McKenzie \u2015 both of whom are former NFL GMs \u2015 in the front office and the Titans have made several moves this offseason that indicate valuing experience alongside new-school thought.<\/p>\n

The fact that McCoy has a shorthand with Callahan also helps the cause, adding another figure like offensive line coach Bill Callahan who the younger Callahan can trust given their years working together.<\/p>\n
