Jadeveon Clowney read the writing on the wall.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers<\/a> released<\/a> the veteran outside linebacker just one season into his two-year, $20 million deal. Shortly after, Joe Person of The Athletic caught up with Clowney and asked for his thoughts on the move.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n \u201cI went to OTAs Day 1 and they kinda told me they weren\u2019t expecting me to be there. I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,\u201d Clowney told Person<\/a>. \u201cI was just like, \u2018Y\u2019all could\u2019ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.\u2019 I kinda had a sense, though. I\u2019ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.\u201d<\/p>\n 2024 marked Clowney’s 11th NFL season. He ended the campaign with 46 combined tackles, his most since 2018, and a team-leading 5.5 sacks.<\/p>\n Despite his contributions, the 32-year-old Clowney didn’t seem long for Carolina\u2014especially after the team selected a pair of pass rushers<\/a>, Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen, on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.<\/p>\n The Panthers also signed<\/a> 26-year-old Pat Jones II to a two-year, $15 million deal at the start of free agency.<\/p>\n Follow\u00a0@ThePanthersWire<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter\/X for more Panthers content.<\/p>\n
