Nothing is official. But it appears we\u2019re getting Carson Wentz vs. the Eagles<\/a> this weekend.<\/p>\n

Wentz, the Eagles\u2019 ex-franchise quarterback, is likely to start against his former team when Philadelphia faces the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.<\/p>\n

Vikings coach Kevin O\u2019Connell hasn\u2019t made any announcements. But ESPN\u2019s Kevin Seifert<\/a>, who covers the Vikings, reported that \u201cWednesday\u2019s circumstances indicated\u201d Wentz will start.<\/p>\n

Wentz has filled in for injured starter J.J. McCarthy the last few games. And while McCarthy is close to returning, he\u2019s still not 100% healthy from a high ankle sprain suffered on Sept. 14. <\/p>\n

McCarthy was limited in Wednesday\u2019s practice. Meanwhile, Wentz, who was dealing with a sore shoulder, was listed as a full participant ahead of Sunday\u2019s Week 7 showdown.<\/p>\n

Wentz has led Minnesota to a 2-1 record since McCarthy\u2019s injury. He has completed 69 of 100 passes for 759 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in wins over the Bengals and Browns and a loss to the Steelers. <\/p>\n

Ironically, Wentz \u2014 who spent five headline-generating seasons with the Eagles from 2016-20 \u2014 joined the Vikings as a result of a move Philadelphia made. Howie Roseman traded for Vikings reserve quarterback Sam Howell in August, prompting Minnesota to sign Wentz.<\/p>\n

Wentz, 32, made NFL history earlier this season when he started for his sixth team in as many consecutive seasons. Wentz started his career as the Eagles\u2019 No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft. He had his best season in 2017, finishing third in the MVP voting. However, a knee injury forced him to miss the Super Bowl run, engineered by backup Nick Foles.<\/p>\n

Wentz was traded to the Colts prior to the 2021 season thanks to the emergence of Jalen Hurts. The Eagles selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 draft \u2014 a move that caused discord in the locker room<\/a> and created tension<\/a> in the quarterback room, specifically. <\/p>\n

Wentz went on to play for the Commanders (2022), Rams (2023) and Chiefs (2024). He started one game vs. the Eagles with Washington, throwing for 211 yards in a 24-8 defeat.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s looking like Wentz will get a second shot at his former team on Sunday. <\/p>\n
