With the 2025 NFL draft<\/a> behind us and free agency wrapped up (aside from Aaron Rodgers), the offseason is essentially over. As we await the release of the 2025 regular season schedule<\/a>, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the offseason as a whole.<\/p>\n

The Atlanta Falcons<\/a> had to limit their spending in free agency due to the Kirk Cousins<\/a> dilemma, but they made up for it by taking a more aggressive approach in the draft. After landing a projected top-10 talent in Georgia’s Jalon Walker<\/a>, the team traded back up into the first round to take Tennessee edge James Pearce Jr<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Considering Atlanta’s cap limitations, the team did a decent job at addressing needs and adding depth. Pro Football Focus released offseason grades<\/a> for all 32 teams, giving the Falcons a “C+” for their moves in free agency and the draft:<\/p>\n

The Falcons didn\u2019t make much of a splash in free agency, but they couldn\u2019t do much amid\u00a0Kirk Cousins\u2018 contract situation. Still, that is their fault, so they don’t get a pass there. Atlanta also lost safety Justin Simmons and center Drew Dalman in free agency. The team’s draft class should be quite impactful, especially first-round picks Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr., who will hopefully boost a team that finished with just a 59.0 PFF pass-rush grade last season. But they paid a high price to secure them (next year\u2019s first-round pick), a move they likely made, again, due to the domino effect of not being able to spend much in free agency. — Trevor Sikkema, PFF<\/a><\/p>\n

PFF was unsympathetic to Atlanta’s free agency limitations, which is fair since nobody made the team hand over a four-year, $180 million contract to Cousins. The Falcons could have used that money elsewhere, particularly to re-sign Dalman.<\/p>\n

While the team is expected to bring back Ryan Neuzil, Dalman was a home-grown talent who stabilized the offensive line. Ideally, the Falcons would have re-signed Dalman to help protect Michael Penix Jr., however, the team has already made a substantial financial commitment to keep the rest of the offensive line together.<\/p>\n

Defensively, Atlanta could have done better in free agency. Safety Jordan Fuller<\/a> and edge Leonard Floyd<\/a> were solid additions, and bringing back cornerback Mike Hughes was a smart move. We’ll see how it all pans out when the 2025 season kicks off in September.<\/p>\n

The 2025 NFL schedule is set to be released on Wednesday, but the league has already leaked a few games. The Falcons are set to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Germany<\/a> during Week 10.<\/p>\n
