Linebacker Jeremiah Moon<\/a> joined the Carolina Panthers\u2019 practice squad on Oct. 21. On Sunday, the former Hoover High School standout could be on the field for the Panthers.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Carolina announced Moon had been elevated from its practice squad for Sunday\u2019s game against the Green Bay Packers.<\/p>\n

Moon was among three players with Alabama football roots elevated to active status on Saturday for Sunday\u2019s games. The Buffalo Bills elevated defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis<\/a> (Alabama<\/a>), and the New Orleans Saints elevated linebacker Eku Leota<\/a> (Auburn<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Each NFL team can elevate two members of its practice squad to active status for every game.<\/p>\n

Until signing with the Panthers, Moon had been out of football after being released with an injury settlement from injured reserve by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 1. Moon had sustained a calf injury at training camp.<\/p>\n

Moon played in 13 games, with one start, for the Steelers in 2024. He had 111 defensive snaps and 222 special-teams plays for Pittsburgh last season. With the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 and 2023, Moon played in eight games.<\/p>\n

The Bills elevated Mathis for Sunday\u2019s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Mathis played 17 defensive snaps when elevated for a 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots on Oct. 5.<\/p>\n

Up for Sunday\u2019s game against the Los Angeles Rams, Leota was on the field for 20 special-teams plays in the Saints\u2019 games against the New York Giants on Oct. 5 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 26. After Sunday, the Saints will need to sign Leota to their 53-man active roster for him to play again for New Orleans in 2025. NFL rules limit practice-squad players to three elevations per season.<\/p>\n

Going the other way in an NFL transaction on Saturday, safety Trey Washington<\/a> (Hewitt-Trussville) was waived by the Indianapolis Colts.<\/p>\n

An undrafted rookie from Ole Miss, Washington had started the season on the Colts\u2019 practice squad. After joining the 53-man roster on Oct. 2, Washington played 36 defensive snaps and 26 special-teams plays across Indianapolis\u2019 past four games. <\/p>\n
