Nebraska<\/a> coach Matt Rhule<\/a> provided further update on the injury to quarterback Dylan Raiola<\/a> after he left Saturday\u2019s loss to USC<\/a> with injury. Speaking postgame, Rhule revealed that Raiola could have played, but he opted to keep him out at the advice of trainers. <\/p>\n

The QB suffered an ankled injury late in the third quarter as TJ Lateef<\/a> stepped in to replace him. Rhule gave more insight into the conversations on the sidelines in his postgame press conference. <\/p>\n

\u201cFrom a medical perspective, they were like, \u2018He can\u2019t run,’\u201d Rhule said<\/a>. \u201cI just didn\u2019t see the respectable thing to do to put a guy out there who can\u2019t run. \u2026Really at the end of the day, I just don\u2019t think you can put a guy out there who can\u2019t defend himself or protect himself. The trainers didn\u2019t want him to go out there, but they didn\u2019t say, \u2018No, he can\u2019t.\u2019 They just said he shouldn\u2019t be out there. I told Dylan, \u2018I love you too much to ask you to play when you\u2019re hurt like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raiola had 91 yard passing and a touchdown prior to his exit. Nebraska would go on to lose the game by a score of 21-17 as Lateef finished out in his place. <\/p>\n

We\u2019ll have to see where Raiola\u2019s helath is heading into next week, but this is an injury that will be worth monitoring for the Cornhuskers. Nebraska has a game coming up against UCLA<\/a> next Saturday. <\/p>\n
