AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. \u2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner Jim Phillips made his thoughts clear on where the league stands regarding Clemson\u2019s upcoming 12-game football series against Notre Dame.<\/p>\n
On May 6, the Tigers and Irish officially agreed to start the series beginning in 2027 and running through 2038. Five of those meetings, however, were already scheduled through the league\u2019s agreement with Notre Dame. The other seven are not and Phillips made it pretty clear those seven meetings with the Tigers have nothing to do with the original agreement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been pretty clear that the rotation is the rotation and that is five games every year,\u201d Phillips said to The Clemson Insider and a small group of reporters as the 2025 ACC Spring Meetings came to a close at the Ritz Carlton on Wednesday. \u201cThe Clemson-Notre Dame piece of it is not a part of that rotational five.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ones that had already been announced, that is part of this rotation that we have across 16 other schools beside Clemson,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Phillips was asked if Notre Dame was on the same page with the ACC and if there was any conflict between the Irish and the league on the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat I would say to you is that coming up is a start of a two-game rotation within the five and then whatever Notre Dame and Clemson decided after that, they are working on that piece of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
From the ACC\u2019s perceptive, only the 2027, \u201928, \u201931, \u201934 and \u201937 Clemson-Notre Dame games are a part of the agreement between the ACC and Notre Dame.<\/p>\n
The other seven games in the series, according to the commissioner, are completely independent from the original deal with the league.
