Catalina Mancera<\/a>, the girlfriend of late Dallas Cowboys star Marshawn Kneeland<\/a>, is pregnant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer\u00a0revealed the news in a Wednesday, November 12, press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Schottenheimer, 52, also announced the creation of the Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund<\/a> to help Catalina and the couple\u2019s unborn baby.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to take a few moments and offer my condolences to Marshawn\u2019s family, Catalina, his girlfriend,\u201d the head coach said. \u201cWe had an opportunity last night to celebrate Marshawn\u2019s life, tell some stories. Share, laugh, cry. Marshawn loved the words \u2018one love.\u2019 So we talked a lot about love, as we grieve. I got a chance to share a couple of the things that I\u2019ll miss the most about Marshawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schottenheimer said Kneeland had \u201cthe most playful spirit of any young man I\u2019ve been around.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is heavy, my team\u2019s heart is heavy,\u201d Schottenheimer added. \u201cWe don\u2019t move on, but we do move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kneeland\u2019s Memorial Fund is \u201cdedicated to preserving Marshawn\u2019s legacy and extending his impact through direct support for his surviving partner and unborn heir,\u201d according to the fund\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Mancera, 22, broke her silence on Kneeland\u2019s death in a story with the Daily Mail<\/a> on Monday, November 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m grieving hard right now,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cIt will be a long time before I\u2019ll feel ready to talk at any length.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mancera added that the family is still \u201cin the early stages of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working on the funeral arrangements,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t know where it\u2019s going to be yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kneeland died<\/a> on Thursday, November 6, after initially evading police who attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation. Authorities later found his car abandoned on the Dallas Parkway and his body nearby. Mancera notified police earlier that night that she believed Kneeland had suicidal ideations and that he had a history of mental illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning,\u201d the Cowboys wrote in a statement later that day. \u201cMarshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kneeland\u2019s cousin, Nicole Kneeland-Woods<\/a>, told the Daily Mail that he had been with Mancera since their days at Western Michigan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarshawn shared a very special relationship with Catalina, whom he had been with since his sophomore year of college,\u201d she said. \u201cThey supported each other through many stages of life. Catalina is an important part of our family and she\u2019s hurting deeply too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMarshawn was a strong, loving person who cared deeply about his family and everyone around him,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Kneeland was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. After appearing in 11 games as a rookie, Kneeland played in seven games in year two, scoring his first career touchdown just three days before his death during a Monday Night Football appearance against the Arizona Cardinals.<\/p>\n

The Cowboys take the field next on Monday, November 17 in Las Vegas against the Raiders.<\/p>\n
