The quarterback situation in the NFC West became a little more solidified. On Friday afternoon it was announced the Seattle Seahawks<\/a>‘ arch rivals, the San Francisco 49ers<\/a>, signed quarterback Brock Purdy to a massive extension. The final pick in the 2022 NFL draft – Mr. Irrelevant – is now among the highest paid in the league at his position.<\/p>\n

Purdy is inked to the Niners for the next five years with a contract worth up to $265 million dollars.<\/p>\n

In sports and business, it’s not wise to make the move your top rivals want you to make. I know there were more than a few 12’s out there (as well as Rams<\/a> and Cardinals fans) who were hoping San Francisco would commit an unreasonable amount of money to Purdy. While he has been decent, Purdy has benefitted tremendously from a stacked roster around him due to the fact the Niners were comparatively paying him next to nothing. Personally, I am a little surprised San Francisco decided to commit big money to Purdy when they could have let him play it out with a lesser roster, to see if he really is the answer at quarterback.<\/p>\n

Instead, they’re financially tied (hamstrung?) to Purdy for the foreseeable future. The Seahawks’ gamble with Sam Darnold feels insignificant to how much San Francisco is putting on the line for “Mr. Irrelevant.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The quarterback situation in the NFC West became a little more solidified.
