New Oregon State<\/a> football coach JaMarcus Shephard is preparing to make significant changes to his coaching staff.<\/p>\n

OSU running backs coach Ray Pickering<\/a> and secondaries coach AJ Cooper both confirmed their departures Monday night. Shephard met with current assistant coaches Monday and informed them whether or not they would be retained on his staff, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions.<\/p>\n

While the full picture isn\u2019t yet clear, a source said to expect sweeping change in Corvallis. Shephard is expected to retain few, if any current assistants as he builds out his 2026 staff. Among those also not retained is co-defensive coordinator Rod Chance, according to a source.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t unusual. Most incoming head coaches rarely retain the bulk of the previous assistant coaching staff. <\/p>\n

As The Oregonian\/OregonLive first reported<\/a> on Sunday, Shephard is expected to bring at least three staff members from Alabama to OSU. That includes Eron Hodges as football general manager, Mitch Dahlen as offensive coordinator\/quarterbacks coach, and Torrey Gill as wide receivers coach.<\/p>\n

Shephard\u2019s introductory press conference is set for noon Tuesday. The rollout for Shephard\u2019s arrival began on OSU\u2019s social media accounts<\/a> Monday as he arrived at Reser Stadium joined by his wife and three kids, greeted by members of the OSU marching band and athletic director Scott Barnes.<\/p>\n
