It was a busy Friday morning when Arizona Cardinals<\/a> head coach Jonathan Gannon addressed the media prior to the team\u2019s final practice for Sunday\u2019s game against the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not to bury the lede, but Gannon declared wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel) and Greg Dortch (chest), defensive lineman Walter Nolen III (knee), cornerback Max Melton (heel) and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ankle) out for the game.<\/p>\n

Then, while it was known quarterback Kyler Murray would not be activated from injured reserve this week, Gannon revealed that Murray won\u2019t play again this season. He hasn\u2019t played since injuring his foot in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans<\/a> and was then placed on IR a month later (Nov. 5)<\/p>\n

Murray went out of state this week for more tests and another opinion and Gannon said, \u201cIt\u2019s not right. It’s not progressing where it’s gonna make sense that he can go.”<\/p>\n

Asked if he expects Murray to be the quarterback next season, Gannon said, “I’m worried about the Rams right now.”<\/p>\n

In addition, running back\u00a0Trey Benson (knee) and defensive end L.J. Collier (knee) will not be activated from IR this week. Collier\u2019s 21-day practice window opened this week and Gannon said, “He’s trending in a good direction.”<\/p>\n

Benson returned to practice Nov. 19 after going on IR Oct. 1 and after practicing on a limited basis for four practices, he hasn\u2019t practiced for four straight practices prior to Friday. His 21-day window closes next week, but Gannon said if it\u2019s looking positive, he could be activated even if not immediately available to play.<\/p>\n

“He’s trying his butt off, doing everything he can to be ready to go,\u201d Gannon said. \u201c(But he’s) not there yet.”<\/p>\n

As for Harrison and Melton, noting the difficulty of playing with a heel injury, Gannon said, \u201cIt\u2019s a hard injury for a skill guy because they can run but then they can\u2019t stick their foot in the ground. There\u2019s a lot of pain obviously and it\u2019s not something you can medicate for them to feel good to play. We\u2019ll see how a little bit of rest helps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, Gannon reflected on what it\u2019s like to be hit with injuries that have hit so many players and position groups after being asked if he ever feels overwhelmed and sits in his office thinking, \u201cMan, another one; I can\u2019t believe there\u2019s a lot of \u2018em.\u201d<\/p>\n

To that, the head coach said, \u201cThat\u2019s the job. And I appreciate the staff because I\u2019m the one that tells them, \u2018Here\u2019s who\u2019s up, here\u2019s who\u2019s down, here\u2019s who\u2019s not gonna make it, here\u2019s who\u2019s gonna make it. This is what you have.\u2019 And there is no negativity. There is no \u2018Poor Little \u2018Ol Me.\u2019 I call that PLUM\u2019s disease (should it be PLOM?). There is none of that because that\u2019s the job. Like you gotta figure it out. Our job is to have solutions and be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if you\u2019re negative or down in the dumps about this guy\u2019s on IR, this guy\u2019s not coming back, this guy\u2019s not gonna make it, how does that really help you do your job at the highest level that you can to try to win the game? That\u2019s the mindset I take and that\u2019s the mindset they take. Now, are we human? Yeah. And so are the players, but you block that out and forge ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
