MIDDLEBURY, VT\u00a0\u2014 The 2025 season came to a close on Saturday afternoon for the William Smith College Herons lacrosse team.<\/p>\n
The Herons were defeated by the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans 11-8 during the National Collegiate Athletic Association Third Round on the campus of Middlebury College in Vermont.<\/p>\n
It was a hot start for William Smith as Herons senior attacker Katherine Murray recorded two first quarter goals to give her team a 3-2 lead after one quarter of play.<\/p>\n
Murray alongside teammates Delaney Cassidy and Kayla Quirk each provided a team-high two goals in the season finale.<\/p>\n
Cassidy’s goal in the second quarter with 11:19 left before the halftime break put her Herons’ up 5-4 at the time.<\/p>\n
But, the Spartans recorded eight of the next ten goals to take a commanding 11-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter after leading 6-4 by the halftime intermission.<\/p>\n
William Smith senior goaltender Maura Smeader took the loss and concluded with nine saves, 11 goals allowed.<\/p>\n
