On Sunday, following the Washington Commanders’<\/a> 29-18 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>, head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media about the injury to starting quarterback Marcus Mariota.<\/p>\n

Quinn told reporters that Mariota needed stitches to help heal the injury to his right hand – his throwing hand – and that he is also dealing with a quad injury.<\/p>\n

“I dont know the number of stitches,” Quinn said. “The quad and the hand happened on the same play. It was a cleat that got into his hand on the top. It is swollen.”<\/p>\n

Marita exited the game after taking a hit on a passing attempt in the third quarter and failed to return, leaving third-string quarterback Josh Johnson at the helm of Washington’s offense.<\/p>\n

For guys like Marcus, he is fighting hard,” Quinn said. “We know how much he means to us as a leader.”<\/p>\n

Quinn told reporters that Mariota’s status would be “day-to-day” as the Commanders<\/a> prepare to take on the Dallas Cowboys in a short week on Christmas Day, giving Mariota limited time to recover.<\/p>\n

“By two days from now, we will have a very good estimate of where he is at,” Quinn said.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old has thrown for 1,695 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season in 11 games. He has rushed for 50 yards and a score; however, he has lost two fumbles and thrown seven interceptions.<\/p>\n

Before exiting Saturday’s contest, he completed 7 of 14 attempts for 95 yards and kept Washington in the game against the NFC East champions.<\/p>\n
