Throughout a season somewhat defined by his team’s inconsistencies, there’s been at least one constant in 2025 for Carolina Panthers<\/a> quarterback Bryce Young\u2014his lingering ankle injury.<\/p>\n

That issue popped up yet again in Sunday’s 23-20 win<\/a> over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when starting right guard Austin Corbett stepped on the right foot of Young. Corbett’s misstep caused Young to stumble to the turf and eventually get corralled for a sack.<\/p>\n

Head coach Dave Canales, on Monday, explained what happened on the play.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, just the timing of it,” Canales stated. “We were a little tight there. Can’t drop-step when you’re on offensive line in those situations. You gotta be firm at the line of scrimmage. I think also Bryce, just coming away from center on the play-actions, can get a little but more depth on the first step. So it’s a little combination of both things, but it’s something we certainly can’t have.”<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the ankle seemed just fine\u2014as Young would eventually lead the Panthers on his 12th career game-winning drive en route to the massive victory. But is the injury worth keeping an eye on for Week 17?<\/p>\n

Canales was later asked if Young will be a full-go at practice starting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, that’s the plan right now,” he replied.<\/p>\n

The Panthers will host the NFC-leading Seattle Seahawks<\/a> at Bank of America Stadium this upcoming weekend. Another win, coupled with another Tampa Bay loss, would clinch Carolina their first division title since 2015.<\/p>\n

Young may have first sustained the injury back in Week 7<\/a>, where he made an early exit against the New York Jets. He’d miss the next outing, Carolina’s Week 8 loss<\/a> to the Buffalo Bills<\/a>, but returned in Week 9.<\/p>\n
