The Pittsburgh Steelers have released preseason standout defensive tackle Kyler Baugh from the practice squad, the club announced on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Baugh was placed on waivers<\/a> as part of the Steelers\u2019 final cuts down to 53 players. He cleared waivers on Wednesday and was quickly re-signed by the team. <\/p>\n

The 23-year-old was the only defensive lineman added to the practice squad, with eight on the active roster<\/a> in Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, Isaiahh Loudermilk, Daniel Ekuale, Logan Lee, Esezi Otomewo and Yahya Black.<\/p>\n

Baugh was not elevated to the active roster for any games this season. <\/p>\n

Baugh joined the Steelers this offseason<\/a>\u00a0after they were decimated with injuries along their defensive line. Dean Lowry, Jacob Slade, and Otomewo were all dealing with injuries while Heyward was also holding in as he was looking for a new contract.<\/p>\n

He went undrafted out of the University of Minnesota in the 2024 NFL Draft and had NFL stints with the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and most recently with the\u00a0Atlanta Falcons practice squad at the end of 2024<\/a>, prior to signing with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL.<\/p>\n

At Minnesota, Baugh\u00a0played in 26 games<\/a>\u00a0and made 77 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and four sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.<\/p>\n

Baugh played his first three seasons of college ball (2019-21) at Houston Baptist, where he played in 26 career games with 18 starts and made 104 career tackles, which included 11 tackles for a loss and five sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced a fumble and recovered another.<\/p>\n

In a corresponding move, the Steelers signed wide receiver Brandon Johnson to the practice squad. <\/p>\n
