Quincy Riley might be the New Orleans Saints<\/a>‘ next big thing at cornerback. He’s quietly turned in a stellar rookie season — Pro Football Focus charting has found that, since he was given a season-high 52 snaps in Week 5, Riley leads all rookie cornerbacks in both forced incompletions (8) and passes broken up (6). He’s only intercepted one throw sent his way, but Riley has the makings of a ball hawk.<\/p>\n

Greater opportunity has helped. He mainly worked on special teams to start the season, but after those first three weeks Riley has logged between 41% and 81% of the team’s defensive snaps in every game, with a big trial-by-fire in Week 5’s win over Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants<\/a>. PFF charting credited Dart with a single 7-yard completion on four throws into Riley’s coverage in that game.<\/p>\n

The Saints do have a history of drafting and developing quality corners. From Paulson Adebo (who left in free agency on a lucrative contract last offseason) to Alontae Taylor (next in line to be paid) and Kool-Aid McKinstry (experiencing some growing pains in a new defense), there’s a real pipeline developing. And Riley stands to be the next man up.<\/p>\n
