After one season with the Vols, and no remaining college eligibility, Thomas is going to try his hand at the pro ranks.<\/p>\n<p>He announced the decision on Thursday, a few days after the Music City Bowl loss to Illinois to close out the season. He is the second offensive player to declare for the draft, joining wide receiver Chris Brazzell. Six defensive players have declared, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you, college football, for an incredible journey over the years, from juco to NMSU, Duke, and Tennessee,\u201d Thomas wrote. \u201cThis journey has guided and molded me into the man I have become today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to thank all the coaches who have been with me and poured into the person and player I have become today. Thank you to my teammates as well, and most importantly, my family for the constant support you\u2019ve given me. In a total of 104 carries, he\u2019s posted 596 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas was granted this final year of eligibility following the ruling from Diego Pavia\u2019s lawsuit that granted former junior college athletes an additional season. A year ago, he played at Duke. He also played alongside Pavia at New Mexico State, where he was an All-Conference USA Second Team.<\/p>\n<p>He began his career at Coffeyville in Kansas, where he earned KJCCC All-Conference First Team honors.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee now has two contributing running backs to replace for next year. While the departure of Thomas was expected, Peyton Lewis is also leaving as a transfer.
