For some, like New York Jets special teams ace Isaiah Williams, it’s the culmination of an incredible journey of adversity.

For a player like Breece Hall, it could mean something else.

Breece Hall snubbed for team MVP

As voted on by his teammates, Williams was named the Jets’ Curtis Martin Team MVP for his work throughout the 2025 season. After being released by the Jets in Week 5, he bounced back to the active roster and became one of the best returners in the league. With two punt return touchdowns and plenty of breakaway kick returns, he became an integral part of the franchise’s future.

Could the same be said for a star like Hall? Despite a career year in which he posted 1,415 yards from scrimmage (more than triple any of his teammates), Hall didn’t get the nod from New York’s locker room.

It could be a sign of the team’s plans for the former second-round pick.

Let’s get this out of the way: Williams’ 2025 season is an incredible feat, and it should be celebrated. He became a key piece to the roster on offense and special teams when the Jets lacked many options.

But when it came to overall production, Hall made a greater impact throughout the season. There is a case to be made that he deserved the recognition.

With Garrett Wilson out for most of the season, the Jets had to rely on Hall as both a runner, receiver, and pass blocker. He stepped up in ways he never had before. In 2025, the former second-round pick has recorded a career-high 244 carries for 1,065 yards. It is the first time he has reached the 1,000-yard plateau in his career.

After that type of season, how will the MVP snub affect the 24-year-old’s future?

Jets’ offseason outlook

Some NFL players have taken a team MVP snub and used it as leverage to find a new home the following offseason. A notable example of this occurred with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Antonio Brown in 2018.

Brown became offended by the Steelers’ decision to give the team MVP award to fellow wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster. He ended up forcing his way to New England in 2019, and his career deteriorated from there.

Is Hall a similar person to the immature Brown? Absolutely not. But it’s a good example of how team awards can affect players who believe they deserve their flowers for a season’s work.

In the case of Hall, his MVP snub could mean that both the organization and he are looking to part ways when the 2026 offseason rolls around. Hall is an unrestricted free agent, and while the Jets could place the franchise tag on him, a long-term extension remains up in the air.

Until the running back speaks, we won’t know for sure if he feels slighted for not being recognized for his career year with the Jets. It could very well be an award he wasn’t interested in after a three-win season.

Coincidences don’t just happen, though. New York relied on Hall for most of the 2025 season. While he wasn’t perfect, Hall was the Jets’ most consistent player. To deny him the coveted award could be a sign that the team has different plans than keeping him on the roster in 2026.

For better or for worse.

How important are team MVP awards to certain players?
