\u201cWe live in a different world now,\u201d broadcaster Peter Schwartz, who\u2019s been on the air with WFAN since 2009, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Wantagh man was at the update desk Sunday evening into Monday morning, where he delivered the flagship\u2019s final \u201csports flash\u201d \u2014 a beloved, quick recap of the New York area teams\u2019 results that day, along with other vital sports news.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He wanted to keep it pure. Schwartz led in with the Jets\u2019 decimation by the Patriots, then the Giants\u2019 win over the Raiders, and finally the Islanders\u2019 loss to the Blue Jackets on the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Schwartz had to change something that became second nature over the years: omitting the typical reminder that there would be a follow-up flash \u201cat the top of the hour.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
It became a \u201cbittersweet\u201d moment for the man who will keep filling in for Boomer and Gio from time to time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI also said something to the effect of, \u2018On behalf of every update anchor in the history of WFAN, that\u2019s what\u2019s happening, I\u2019m Peter Schwartz.\u2019\u2009\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He would be remiss not to acknowledge the great generation of sports voices who came before him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJohn Minko trained me, so that tribute was for him. I learned a lot from Bob Heussler, so that was for him as well,\u201d said Schwartz, who reminisced and shared some laughs with Lori Rubinson before wrapping up in-studio.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were so many other people, those iconic voices, that did updates on WFAN. I wanted to make sure I said a little something. I didn\u2019t have enough time to mention everybody, so I thought that was an appropriate way to close it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
