With new roster moves each offseason, NFL teams often have to make tough decision about other players. Good players are cut every offseason.<\/p>\n
Could that happen with the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>?<\/p>\n Blacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named the best player on each team that could still get cut this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n For the Cardinals, he names veteran defensive lineman Justin Jones.<\/p>\n Last offseason, the Arizona Cardinals signed defensive lineman Justin Jones to a three-year, $31.2 million contract. However, he appeared in only four games before suffering a triceps injury. While Arizona would save just $95,000 in cap space by releasing Jones, it may want to free up a spot at defensive end.<\/p>\n The Cardinals brought back Calais Campbell this offseason before using a first-round pick on Walter Nolen. With 2024 first-round pick Darius Robinson also in the end rotation, the Cards may give Jones a chance to latch on elsewhere. After tallying 4.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss in 2023, he should draw interest.<\/p>\n Jones is an easy target. He was paid a lot of money and he missed almost all last year. However, suggesting he could be cut shows a lack of understanding about his contract. His $7 million contract is fully guaranteed. The Cardinals have never been a team to cut a player with a significant guaranteed salary.<\/p>\n More importantly, the Cardinals aren’t unhappy with Jones. He was signed because of his play and because of the type of player he is.<\/p>\n Is the defensive line room full? Yes. Will someone have to go? Likely.<\/p>\n If Jones is the guy, though, it won’t be via cut. He would be traded, although a trade would be tough because of the contract.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n If a player is going to be straight-up cut, that would be L.J. Collier.
