Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has been central to success for the Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> during their recent dynastical run. He\u2019s been with the team since 2022 and he has two Super Bowl rings to show for it.<\/p>\n

But, Nagy\u2019s current contract is up after the season, which calls his future in Kansas City into question. As it turns out, the Chiefs might be in danger of losing Nagy to a larger role elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Matt Nagy will be a ‘top’ head coaching candidate this offseason<\/p>\n

According to NFL.com\u2019s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero<\/a>, Nagy could be in line to land a coveted head coaching position. Nagy previously served as the head coach of the Chicago Bears<\/a> from 2018 to 2021.<\/p>\n

From NFL.com:<\/p>\n

“With offensive coordinator Matt Nagy\u2019s contract up, several scenarios are in play — including Nagy getting a head coaching job. He\u2019ll be among the top candidates, a rare one this cycle with experience and a background on offense. If he doesn\u2019t get a head job, leaving to take over as a primary play-caller elsewhere is also possible.”<\/p>\n

The interviews are already coming for Nagy. He\u2019s set to interview<\/a> for the Tennessee Titans<\/a>\u2019 head coaching vacancy next week. There will likely be others, too.<\/p>\n

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been publicly supportive of Nagy potentially pursuing other opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he deserves to be a head football coach in this league,\u201d Reid said. \u201cThat\u2019s exciting for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Losing Nagy would be a big blow for Kansas City, but it wouldn\u2019t necessarily be a death knell. The Chiefs won a Super Bowl prior to Nagy joining the staff. If he left, they\u2019d be tasked with doing so again.
