{"id":652864,"date":"2026-01-04T09:11:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T09:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/652864\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T09:11:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T09:11:10","slug":"kentucky-transfer-db-dj-waller-jr-commits-to-louisville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/652864\/","title":{"rendered":"Kentucky transfer DB DJ Waller Jr. commits to Louisville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/kentucky-wildcats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentucky<\/a> transfer junior defensive back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/dj-waller-jr-156546\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Waller Jr.<\/a> has committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/cardinal-sports\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Louisville<\/a> via the NCAA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/transfer-portal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Transfer Portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Waller Jr., who transferred to Kentucky from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/michigan-wolverines\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan<\/a> prior to the 2024 season, spent two seasons playing for the Wildcats. He was much more effective in 2024, as he recorded 13 tackles and two pass deflections in seven games. He suffered an injury in Kentucky\u2018s 2025 season opener against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/toledo-rockets\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toledo<\/a> that kept him out for most of his junior season.<\/p>\n<p>The Youngstown, OH native marks the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/transfer-portal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Transfer Portal<\/a> commitment of the cycle for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/jeff-brohm-133414\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Brohm<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/cardinal-sports\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Louisville<\/a>. He was the No. 578 ranked player in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/transfer-portal\/industry\/football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">On3\u2019s Transfer Portal Rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to enrolling at\u00a0Michigan out of high school,\u00a0Waller Jr. was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 681 overall player in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/rankings\/industry-player\/football\/2023\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2023 class<\/a>, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 62-ranked safety in his class and the No. 22 overall player from the state of Ohio, hailing from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/high-school\/chaney-youngstown-oh-13079\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chaney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville\u2018s 2025 season got off to a strong start, as it rose as high as No. 15 in the College Football Playoff Rankings following a 28-16 victory over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/virginia-tech-hokies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Virginia Tech<\/a> on Nov. 1. The Cardinals, sitting at 7-1, had a slew of unranked opponents on their schedule heading down the final stretch.<\/p>\n<p>They, however, dropped three consecutive games to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/golden-bear-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/tiger-illustrated\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clemson<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/smu-mustangs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SMU<\/a> before closing the regular season strong with a 41-0 win over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/kentucky-wildcats\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentucky<\/a>. This sent them to the Boca Raton Bowl against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/toledo-rockets\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toledo<\/a>, which they won 27-22 to wrap up a 9-4 record.<\/p>\n<p>Waller Jr. heading to Louisville comes as a surprise to nobody, as Louisville\u2018s Executive Director of Football Personnel and Recruiting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/vince-marrow-132250\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vince Marrow<\/a> was one of his lead recruiters at Kentucky.
