We have made it through the first quarter at U.S. Bank Stadium for this regular season finale, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Green Bay Packers by a score of 3-0.<\/p>\n
The Vikings got the football first, as Green Bay won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. J.J. McCarthy led the Minnesota offense out onto the field, and they got the ball moving quickly as McCarthy found Justin Jefferson for a pair of completions for 28 yards, getting Jefferson closer to his 1,000-yard target for the season. McCarthy then got flagged for a taunting penalty to push the offense back, but then found Jefferson for 11 more to get the Vikings into position for Will Reichard. Reichard connected on a 43-yard attempt, and the Vikings were up 3-0 a little under five minutes into the game.<\/p>\n
The Packers\u2019 offense put together a very quick three-and-out, and the resulting punt took a Green Bay roll and wound up at the 3-yard line to pin the Vikings\u2019 offense deep for their second possession. The Vikings\u2019 offense then picked up a first down, but then stalled out and were forced to punt it away themselves.<\/p>\n
The Packers then had to punt the ball away again after Dallas Turner absolutely crushed Clayton Tune for a sack on third down, and the punt went into the end zone for a touchback.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the Vikings didn\u2019t move the ball that far and punted it away again, with Ryan Wright\u2019s punt getting downed at the 10-yard line. As we move to the second quarter of play, the Packers are looking at 2nd-and-12 from their own 13-yard line.<\/p>\n
And, if you\u2019re keeping track, Justin Jefferson had four catches for 51 yards in the first quarter, giving him 998 on the season, just two shy of his sixth straight 1,000-yard season to begin his career. Got a feeling he\u2019s going to get there.<\/p>\n
