That\u2019s the reality of modern-day college football.<\/p>\n<p>In the 12-team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6897664\/2025\/12\/18\/cfp-quarterback-rankings-fernando-mendoza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">College Football Playoff field<\/a>, seven starting quarterbacks arrived at their current teams via the portal, including the Heisman Trophy winner, Indiana\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6885230\/2025\/12\/14\/fernando-mendoza-heisman-college-football-playoff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fernando Mendoza<\/a>. There are many reasons for this, from frequent coaching changes to the start-or-depart mentality that has become routine to the enticing paydays that await talented passers at other programs.<\/p>\n<p>The portal officially opened on Jan. 2, and the transfer quarterback market is already filled with quarterbacks. Some of them are names you know, others are backups seeking a starting job.<\/p>\n<p>Which transfer quarterbacks could make a big impact in 2026?
