\u201cEverywhere I\u2019ve been, I\u2019ve kind of been the rah-rah [guy] just because I\u2019m loud and obnoxious, but we still went 4-13,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cIf you\u2019re the face of the franchise and you\u2019re not a good franchise, then there\u2019s still an issue \u2014 and it\u2019s not that big of a deal. But if I\u2019m the face of the franchise when we\u2019re winning the Super Bowl, then you can ask me that question in a year or two.\u201d<\/p>\n
One ingredient that would accelerate a Giants change of fates from the NFL\u2019s second-worst record over the last three seasons would be Skattebo\u2019s full return to health after an ankle dislocation and fractured fibula that required immediate surgery Oct. 26.<\/p>\n
\u201cGetting healthy, so that\u2019s what matters,\u201d Skattebo said during his first post-injury interview with beat reporters. \u201cI\u2019ve got about another week until I start moving around and upping my speed a little bit. Time is going to tell, but I\u2019m taking it easy because we have plenty of time to get back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo said his \u201clong goal\u201d is to be on the field for the start of training camp, with a hope of participating in spring OTAs. He was in a walking boot for eight weeks, so regaining his dorsiflexion (upward movement of the foot at the ankle) is the first priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to be ready,\u201d quarterback Jaxson Dart said. \u201cI feel like if they would\u2019ve let Skatt play [Sunday], he would\u2019ve played. He\u2019s attacked it. He\u2019s got a great plan in place for him to be ready, and he\u2019s going to come back stronger than he was before.\u201d<\/p>\n
The rookie fourth-round pick rushed for 410 yards (4.1 per carry) and five touchdowns as a short burst of positivity and energy in a dreary season. He stole the starting job away from Tyrone Tracy Jr., but Tracy gained 1,000 yards from scrimmage in his second chance while Skattebo was sidelined so now the Giants have a reputable 1-2 punch going forward.<\/p>\n
Assuming Skattebo recovers to 100 percent while going back and forth between Arizona and New York for rehab, that is.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s not even a question,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cI\u2019m going to be back. I played seven games in the NFL and I got hurt. There\u2019s a long road ahead, and that\u2019s not going to stop me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why were Skattebo and New York the perfect fit?<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause New York\u2019s crazy,\u201d he told The Post. \u201cIf you drive down the street and don\u2019t get honked at, there\u2019s probably a problem with your driving.\u201d<\/p>\n
Skattebo is the same guy who tried to get to his feet and walk off the field with open fracture at his lower leg after a tackle against the Eagles.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw it,\u201d Skattebo said, \u201cand then 30 seconds later it was straight again. In the moment, I didn\u2019t really feel it until I got into the X-ray room.\u201d<\/p>\n
His next backflip will be a special one.<\/p>\n
