United States President Donald Trump wants the new Washington Commanders stadium named after him, but Polymarket traders give little chance of his hopes coming true<\/p>\n

The clock is officially ticking on the Washington Commanders to break ground and begin building their new $3.7 billion stadium.<\/p>\n

The venue, which will serve as the Commanders<\/a>\u2019 home stadium for NFL games and various other sports and public events, is due follow a four-year construction plan beginning in 2026<\/a> and be completed in time for the 2030 NFL season.<\/p>\n

And United States President Donald Trump<\/a> wants it to be named after him. Last November, ESPN reported<\/a> that \u201cthere have been back-channel communications\u201d between the White House and Commanders\u2019 ownership group about naming the franchise’s new home after the president<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an email to ESPN regarding the matter, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt<\/a> wrote, \u201cIt\u2019s what the president wants, and it will probably happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to prediction market platform Polymarket<\/a>, on which traders can wager on real-world events, including whether or not the Commanders\u2019 new stadium will be named after Trump, there is little collective belief that the president\u2019s request will come to fruition.<\/p>\n

Under the market titled \u201cWashington Commanders agree to name stadium after Trump?\u201d Polymarket traders give a five percent chance of the outcome being \u2018yes.\u2019<\/p>\n

No further reports have been made about the possibility of the domed stadium, which will sit fewer than five miles east of the White House in Washington D.C.\u2019s East Hill neighborhood, being named after Trump.<\/p>\n

The new venue will sit in the same location as RFK Stadium, the team\u2019s home from 1961 to 1997, and allow for the nation\u2019s capital to host a wide variety of sports and entertainment events it previously could not, including the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s request coming true would require the Commanders to stray away from a traditional naming rights deal, which many U.S.-based sports stadiums and arenas use to help recoup the billions spent on construction.<\/p>\n

For example, financial services company SoFi, the naming-rights holder of the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>\u2019 and Chargers<\/a>\u2019 home stadium, pays the LA Stadium and Entertainment District $30 million annually over 20 years for the naming rights of the venue.<\/p>\n

While it seems unlikely the Commanders and Washington D.C. would bypass that opportunity in favor of the president\u2019s desires, it is certainly a topic to keep tabs on over the coming months and years.<\/p>\n

One day after news broke that Trump wanted the stadium named after him, he attended a Commanders vs. Lions game<\/a>, joined FOX\u2019s broadcast booth<\/a>, and saw a Lions star punched in the face after performing Trump\u2019s signature dance as a touchdown celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n
