Cameron Dicker<\/a>, one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL, delivered something about as meaningful as a game-winning field goal this Christmas for the family.<\/p>\n\u201cIt was like, shocking, but I was excited at the same time,\u201d said Landon.<\/p>\n
The Alvernaz family are longtime Chargers fans.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
They moved to Utah from San Diego a few years ago when father Matthew Alvernaz took a job as security director with the Jordan School District.<\/p>\n
They brought their love for the Chargers with them. \u201cWe stayed loyal to our team. They\u2019re still our team,\u201d said Alvernaz.<\/p>\n
This Christmas, Alvernaz planned a big surprise. He had tickets for the whole family to attend a Chargers game in Los Angeles, but he wanted to make the Christmas surprise even more special for his kids.<\/p>\n
So, he reached out to Dicker on social media, never expecting a response.<\/p>\n
Then the video arrived.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time for you to be in person cheering for us again. So we will see you at the Texans game, baby! Yeah. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas,\u201d said Dicker in the message.<\/p>\n
For Emma, hearing Dicker say her name was almost too much to process.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was the first name he said and I was like, what? What?\u201d she said with a big smile.<\/p>\n
For the family, the message meant far more than just football tickets.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt meant more to us than I think he can realize. Like, just just to have that somebody to take time from somewhere else to address our family on Christmas,\u201d said Matthew.<\/p>\n
The Chargers play this weekend in the first round of the playoffs, airing right here on KSL.<\/p>\n
No doubt, they\u2019ll have at least one Utah family cheering louder than ever.<\/p>\n
