To this point, the Minnesota Vikings have not dismissed any coaches following a disappointing 9\u20138 season<\/a>. Head coach Kevin O\u2019Connell isn\u2019t going anywhere, but it would be logical for a few assistants to be replaced.<\/p>\n Another situation worth monitoring is the interest defensive coordinator Brian Flores continues to draw<\/a>. He could be on the move for any number of roles this offseason<\/a>.<\/p>\n Within the NFC North, the Detroit Lions have already made changes. John Morton was dismissed after just one season as offensive coordinator, replacing now\u2013Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson<\/a>. Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback David Blough is now a candidate for that vacant role.<\/p>\n David Blough Interviewing With Detroit Lions<\/p>\n A major reason the Detroit Lions returned to relevance was the offense installed by former coordinator Ben Johnson. His departure proved costly, and Dan Campbell\u2019s hire of John Morton fell flat. Now, David Blough is under consideration.<\/p>\n The #Lions<\/a> have started off their OC search with an intriguing name: David Blough, a former Detroit QB.<\/p>\n Blough was assistant QBs coach with the #Commanders<\/a>, but did the QB coach job after Tavita Pritchard left. He started five games as a rookie, going 0\u20135, and finished his career 0\u20137 as a starter after two losses with Arizona in 2022.<\/p>\n Despite his playing resume, Blough is just 30 years old and has quickly become a respected coaching candidate. He has experience working with quarterbacks at the NFL level in Washington, and a promotion to offensive coordinator would represent a significant step forward in his coaching career.<\/p>\n The Lions are looking to rebound in 2026 after being beaten twice by the Minnesota Vikings and missing the playoffs. Blough never appeared in a game for Minnesota, but he was signed to the Vikings\u2019 practice squad in 2022 after being waived by Detroit.<\/p>\n Vikings Coordinator Roles Still in Flux<\/p>\n The Minnesota Vikings are not searching for an offensive coordinator after extending Wes Phillips prior to the season. Brian Flores, however, was not given a new contract and continues to draw interest elsewhere<\/a>.<\/p>\n Even with Phillips returning, his situation remains intriguing. Kevin O\u2019Connell has called plays throughout his entire tenure in Minnesota, leaving the true scope of Phillips\u2019 responsibilities somewhat unclear.<\/p>\n Beyond that dynamic, it\u2019s fair to argue that O\u2019Connell looked as strained on the sidelines this season as he ever has. While much of that stemmed from a self-inflicted quarterback situation<\/a>, the offense rarely found rhythm.
