It’s clear that the Jets will again be in the business of selling hope this offseason, and understandably so. There is not much positive to take away from the 2025 campaign.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey (l.) and head coach Aaron Glenn (r.) speak to reporters at the team’s facility in Florham Park on Jan. 6, 2026. Bill Kostroun/New York Post

Mougey and Glenn now enter an offseason armed with nearly $100 million in salary cap space, four picks in the first two rounds, including the No. 2 overall pick, and what they feel like are several building block players.

Mougey and Glenn also pointed out that they were learning on the job in Year 1 as a head coach and general manager, and expect those growing pains in 2025 to pay off in 2026.

“As a rookie head coach, and the same thing as a GM, going through the first year and really understanding the landscape of everything, that’s a huge deal,” Glenn said. “Speaking of myself, there’s a number of things that I know that I will be better at.”

The Jets have now gone 15 years since making the postseason and 10 years without a winning season. Things got very ugly this year with an 0-7 start and a five-game losing streak to end the season. They became the first team in NFL history to lose five straight games by 23 points or more to end the year. The indignities of this season were plentiful, led by the fact that they became the first team to not record an interception in a season.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey speaks to reporters at the team’s facility in Florham Park on Jan. 6, 2026. They both said they believe in each other and Johnson.

“I’ve been here a year. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve got a clear vision,” Mougey said. “AG and I talk daily on this roster and the vision and this division. With the assets we have moving forward, the draft capital, the cap space, I know we’re going to continue to build and add good players to the team that are going to help us win.”

The biggest priority needs to be finding a quarterback. The expectation now is the Jets will draft a quarterback, potentially Oregon quarterback Dante Moore at No. 2 overall. They likely need more than one, so they could sign a veteran free agent or make a trade for one.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn speaks to reporters at the team’s facility in Florham Park on Jan. 6, 2026. Bill Kostroun/New York Post

“We’ll exhaust every option,” Mougey said. “Free agency, the league, obviously the draft. We will exhaust that and will have a good solution for the New York Jets.”

Glenn and Mougey failed in their first attempt at solving the quarterback dilemma in 2025 when they signed Justin Fields and guaranteed him $30 million. Fields was terrible and ended up getting benched in November. The expectation is the Jets will release Fields this offseason, although they were not ready to comment on his future Monday. Glenn would only say that Fields is under contract.

Glenn repeated the message he gave after Sunday’s season-ending loss that he puts the blame for the year on himself.

“I put a lot of it on me on the wins and losses, and I have to do a better job,” Glenn said. “And I’m not going to sit here and blame it on the roster, I’m not going to sit here and blame it on the coaching staff; I’m going to blame it on the guy that’s sitting right in front of you and I have to do a better job, and I’m always going to say that. Until I get the whole situation situated, then we will be better, which I know we will next year.”

The Jets will get it fixed in 2026.
