Former Texas<\/a> star and NFL<\/a>\u00a0wide receiver Jordan Shipley has been hospitalized with severe burns following a horrific accident on his ranch on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from his family, the Longhorn legend is currently in a ‘critical but stable condition’ after the incident in Burnet, Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement, according to On3<\/a>, read: ‘Jordan was involved in an accident this afternoon near his hometown of Burnet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘The machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire, and although he managed to get out, it was not before sustaining severe burns on his body in the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘He was able to get to one of his workers on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital. He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.’<\/p>\n

Shipley, 40, spent three seasons in the NFL and played for three different teams during that time – including the Bengals, Jaguars and the Buccaneers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shipley spent three seasons in the NFL and played for three different teams during that time<\/p>\n

He was drafted by the Bengals as the 84th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft and signed a four-year contract worth $2.45 million, with a signing bonus of $757,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He made a blistering start to his time in Cincinnati after returning a punt 63 yards during his first NFL preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, in the following season, Shipley tore both his anterior crucial ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) putting an abrupt halt to his career.<\/p>\n

After struggling to recover from the injury, he was eventually waived by the Bengals.<\/p>\n

He was later picked up by the Buccaneers but was subsequently released just two weeks later during final roster cuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 and went on to make six appearances for the team before later being released in September 2013.<\/p>\n

While he may not have had the glittering NFL career he may have hoped, Shipley is well revered in the college football scene following his time with the Longhorns.<\/p>\n

During his time with the Texas Longhorns, Shipley (No. 8) set multiple school records<\/p>\n

He attended the University of Texas from 2004-2009, where he played for Mack Brown’s Texas Longhorns team and was one of their standout players.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In October 2008, he set a Texas Longhorn record for receptions after catching 15 passes for 168 yards during a victory over Oklahoma State.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, he played 53 games for Texas. He was an All-American in 2009, which is the same season the Longhorns won the Big 12 and reached the national championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Shipley managed to produce back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons as a wide receiver.<\/p>\n
