MIAMI GARDENS \u2014 The Miami Dolphins<\/a> have requested permission to interview Chad Alexander, an assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Chargers, for their general manager job, according to an ESPN report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alexander becomes the eighth known candidate to interview for the general manager job joining Champ Kelly, the Dolphins<\/a> interim general manager; Josh Williams, San Francisco 49ers\u2019 director of scouting\/football operations; Tariq Ahmad, 49ers\u2019 vice president of player personnel; RJ Gillen, 49ers\u2019 assistant general manager; Jon-Eric Sullivan, Green Bay Packers\u2019 vice president of player personnel; Alec Halaby, Philadelphia Eagles\u2019 assistant general manager; and John McKay, Los Angeles Rams\u2019 assistant general manager.<\/p>\n

Alexander, 49, the son of Hubbard Alexander, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach, is in his 26th NFL season and his first season with the Chargers.<\/p>\n

Before joining the Chargers, Chad Alexander spent the previous five seasons with the New York Jets as their director of player personnel and before that he spent 20 seasons in Baltimore, mostly in the scouting department.<\/p>\n

In 2009, Chad Alexander was promoted to be Baltimore\u2019s assistant director of pro and college personnel, a position he held until 2019 before joining the Jets.<\/p>\n

In December 2024, Chad Alexander traveled to Dallas to attend the NFL\u2019s Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program.<\/p>\n

Among those involved to some extent in deciding the Dolphins\u2019 next general manager are owner Stephen Ross, team president Tom Garfinkel, Brandon Shore, the senior vice president of football and business administration, Hall of Fame quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Dan Marino, and coach Mike McDaniel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not known to what extent McDaniel is involved in the interview or hiring process.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no known timetable for the Dolphins to make their decision on hiring a general manager.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins fired former general manager Chris Gier on Halloween.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins, who are coming off back-to-back losing seasons, are in a state of flux right now considering they don\u2019t have a general manager or a starting quarterback. <\/p>\n

Tua Tagovailoa<\/a>, the full-time starter since McDaniel\u2019s arrival in 2022, was benched late this season in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers, the seventh-round draft pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n
