It\u2019s unfair for any one game to be a referendum on a player, coach, or team, but that\u2019s almost always what playoff games end up becoming.<\/p>\n
I think just about everyone understands how limited the Packers are as a team at this point of the season. There\u2019s no Micah Parsons, Tucker Kraft, Elgton Jenkins, or any number of other players there to help them anymore. The Super Bowl contender they were supposed to be is long gone, even if there\u2019s still a chance they make a playoff run.<\/p>\n
But despite those well-understood and broadly accepted facts, we\u2019re still going to get a lot of narrative-driven takes based on the outcome of this weekend\u2019s Packers\/Bears game. In particular, if the Packers\u2019 offense struggles, we\u2019ll probably face an entire offseason of discussion as to whether or not Matt LaFleur is the right coach for the Packers, or if Jordan Love is the right quarterback.<\/p>\n
There are plenty of good reasons to have those discussions, and they\u2019re worth having, even if you\u2019re unlikely to believe that LaFleur deserves to be fired or that the Packers should move on from Jordan Love. But they shouldn\u2019t hinge on one game \u2014 though we all know that things probably will, if the Packers struggle against the Bears.<\/p>\n
LaFleur\u2019s reputation has a lot on the line against the Bears.<\/p>\n
It seems improbable, but I\u2019d love to see it.<\/p>\n
The Bears have made a living coming back from big deficits this year, but sooner or later that just gets to be too much to ask.<\/p>\n
You never really want to root for punts, but it\u2019s fun to watch Whelan kick the laces off the ball whenever he\u2019s called upon.<\/p>\n
