After the Cardinals fired coach Jonathan Gannon on Monday morning, quarterback Kyler Murray took to social media to send a farewell message to his former coach.<\/p>\n

Murray and Gannon spent three years in Arizona together, going 13-17. The duo led the Cardinals to an 8-9 record in 2024, their best during Gannon\u2019s tenure. However, the Cardinals went just 2-19 across three seasons under Gannon without Murray under center.<\/p>\n

Murray\u2019s farewell comes after a tumultuous season. The Cardinals quarterback started the year 2-0 before Arizona lost three straight games, including a blown 15-point fourth-quarter lead to the Tennessee Titans.<\/p>\n

Murray left that game momentarily with a foot injury before returning. However, that was the final game he played in the season. He missed the next two games, and Arizona\u2019s losing streak reached five games before a primetime matchup in Week 8 with the Dallas Cowboys.<\/p>\n

Gannon told the media before that game that Murray may have a role on game <\/a>day but\u00a0would not start the game. Murray didn\u2019t end up playing and was placed on injured reserve the following week.<\/p>\n

Gannon said Murray\u2019s foot injury hadn\u2019t progressed the way the Cardinals had hoped. He missed the remainder of the season, and Jacoby Brissett remained the starter. That raised questions around Murray\u2019s future in Arizona.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what we have to do is we have to look long and hard at this season and what happened,\u201d Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort said on Monday. \u201cThings didn\u2019t work out. Kyler was injured this year. Jacoby stepped in and played well. We will see what that leads to. \u2026 Those discussions are for another day, not the day after the season has ended.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cardinals drafted Murray No. 1 overall in the 2019 draft, and Ossenfort and Gannon were hired in 2023. The Cardinals quarterback had a quick start to his career, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year and making two Pro Bowls.<\/p>\n

Following his instant success, the Cardinals signed Murray to a five-year extension in 2022, and the new leadership remained behind Murray when they arrived.<\/p>\n

However, with the way the 2025 season went, the Cardinals leadership is now non-committal to Murray as Arizona\u2019s future at quarterback<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just came off the last game of the year and less than 24 hours ago we just left the field,\u201d Ossenfort told reporters. \u201cThere\u2019ll be a time and place for those discussions. \u200aI\u2019d say all options are on the table, whether it\u2019s quarterback or any other position. We\u2019re gonna investigate all those to improve the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ossenfort added that the Cardinals are looking for the \u201cbest head coach\u201d and \u201cbest fit.\u201d Arizona won\u2019t limit itself to an offensive minded coach, veteran coach or one tailored to Murray.<\/p>\n
