As the New York Giants<\/a> enter the 2026 offseason, general manager Joe Schoen faces a pivotal head coaching search and subsequent roster overhaul.<\/p>\n

The 2025 season exposed ongoing challenges along both lines of scrimmage, inconsistent play, and a rash of injuries that derailed promising young players. With 28 players set to become free agents<\/a> in March, the front office must balance financial constraints, salary-cap health, and the need to build around emerging cornerstone pieces like rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Giants Wire highlighted eight impending free agents who have earned another contract<\/a> with the organization due to their reliability, upside, or scheme fit.<\/p>\n

Now, focus shifts to the opposite end of the spectrum: four players who, for various reasons ranging from performance, injury history, positional redundancy, and failed draft expectations, should not be re-signed.<\/p>\n

QB Russell Wilson<\/p>\n

Wilson was signed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal last March that was laden with incentives that would be difficult for him to reach. He missed on all of them after going 0-3 in his three starts and then only appearing three more times in spot duty. With the emergence of Jaxson Dart as the starter and Jameis Winston under contract for this coming season, there’s no room or need for Wilson any longer.<\/p>\n

Neal is being touted as one of the biggest busts in the Giants’ draft history. The seventh overall selection in the 2022 NFL draft was a failure at offensive tackle, and then he couldn’t catch on at guard. He did not play a single snap in 2025. Time for everyone to move on.<\/p>\n

OL Joshua Ezeudu<\/p>\n

Ezeudu was a third-round pick in 2022 (67th overall) and has been injured in three of his four seasons with Big Blue. He played in 33 games, starting 10, but did not play a snap in 2025. Out of sight, out of mind. They will allow him to hit free agency and wish him the best.<\/p>\n

WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton<\/p>\n

BFW is a very useful player, especially on special teams, but injuries have pretty much ruined his career thus far. A 2023 UDFA out of West Virginia, Ford-Wheaton went down in the preseason with a torn ACL and missed the entire season. He played in 14 games in 2024, but all on special teams. His 60-yard return of a blocked field goal for a touchdown sealed the Giants’ upset road victory in Seattle. This summer, at the beginning of training camp, he tore his Achilles and was placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR).<\/p>\n
