The Washington Commanders<\/a> parted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury<\/a> earlier this week. Washington’s offensive coordinator position should be an attractive opportunity with the presence of quarterback Jayden Daniels and an offensive line that should be a team strength in 2026. Several names<\/a> have been linked to the Commanders<\/a>, including former Dolphins coach<\/a> Mike McDaniel.<\/p>\n On Thursday, we learned who the first person to interview for the position was. ESPN’s Todd Archer revealed that Dallas Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells would interview with Washington.<\/p>\n Wells, 42, has been with the Cowboys since 2020 and was on staff with Washington coach Dan Quinn for three seasons when Quinn served as defensive coordinator (2021-23). In fact, when Quinn was named Commanders’ head coach in 2024, he tried to bring Wells with him, but Dallas denied the request. Quinn was reportedly interested in Wells as an offensive line coach.<\/p>\n Adam Schefter reported later on Thursday that the Commanders completed the interview with Wells.<\/p>\n Wells was an offensive lineman at Southern. He began his coaching career at the high school level in 2006. His first break came in 2008, when he landed a position on LSU’s staff. After four years at LSU, Wells moved to the NFL, landing with the New York Giants<\/a>. Wells worked with the Giants from 2013 through 2019, beginning as a quality control assistant before ending his time there as tight ends coach.<\/p>\n
