Rob Gronkowski<\/a> addressed one of the wildest rumors about his controversial former teammate Aaron Hernandez<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a Tuesday, May 20, appearance on the \u201cBussin\u2019 With the Boys\u201d<\/a> podcast, Gronkowski, 36, was asked by former NFL offensive lineman Taylor Lewan about a story that Hernandez would be \u201cin the team meeting room beating off and doing crazy s***.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a possibility, that one,\u201d Gronkowski said with an awkward laugh.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI may or may not have seen it live. I\u2019m not going to confirm nor deny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gronkowski and Hernandez were both tight ends on the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI love crazy s***, though,\u201d Gronkowski added, \u201cI didn\u2019t mind things like that. I was like, \u2018Wow, that was pretty epic.\u2019 I was a wild man myself. Nothing fazed me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April 2015, Hernandez was found guilty of murder in the first degree in the 2013 killing of his friend Odin Lloyd.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Two years later, Hernandez died by suicide in his prison cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He was 27 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t see it going to the level that it went to,\u201d Gronkowski said of Hernandez\u2019s troubles. \u201cI didn\u2019t see that happening. That was a surprise. It was a surprise to everyone because you would never expect anyone, especially in that position, to have it go to the level that it went to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gronkowski continued, \u201cI didn\u2019t know it was that bad. I knew that there was definitely some wild sides to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hernandez\u2019s story was the subject of a 2020 Netflix documentary, Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, and FX\u2019s dramatized series American Sports Story<\/a> in September 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gronkowski argued that the media representations of Hernandez were a mixed bag.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWith everything coming out, there\u2019s some that I would say is true in the documentaries that come out,\u201d he explained. \u201cThere\u2019s some that\u2019s probably exaggerated a little bit. But there\u2019s some that\u2019s not exaggerated at all, either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gronkowski and Hernandez were both selected in the 2010 NFL Draft, and Gronkowski recalled Hernandez\u2019s football prowess during their rookie season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat guy knew the plays inside and out, the run game and pass game, in like the first two weeks of being in New England\u201d Gronwkowski said. \u201cI struggled with it all the way until like Week 8.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gronkowski added, \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate what happened because the talent was just through the roof, man.\u201d<\/p>\n
