Five NFL games we can’t wait to watch in the 2025 season<\/p>\n

The NFL schedule for the 2025-2026 season has been released. Here are a few games on our must-watch list.<\/p>\n

The NFL<\/a> is hosting league meetings in Minneapolis this week in which officials are voting on multiple resolutions.<\/p>\n

One is whether or not NFL players will be allowed to participate in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics. The sport will debut in Los Angeles and could see some of the biggest stars in the NFL compete for Olympic gold.<\/p>\n

Another is considering a ban on the “tush push,” a play deployed most notably by the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>. The Green Bay Packers<\/a> were the team to propose the ban and could see the end of the Eagles’ short-yardage go-to.<\/p>\n

A third resolution could change NFL playoff seeding rules.<\/p>\n

The Detroit Lions<\/a> are proposing a change to how the playoff field is set in each conference. The current format reserves the top four seeds for division champions and is ordered by regular season record. The remaining three playoff “wild card” spots are for the remaining teams with the best regular season record.<\/p>\n

The league is expected to vote on this proposal on May 21. Here’s what to know about the Lions’ proposal.<\/p>\n

What is the Lions’ playoff proposal?<\/p>\n

The Lions’ proposal for the playoffs does away with reserving spots for division winners. Instead, it would make the seven playoff teams in each conference the best teams by record, regardless of division titles.<\/p>\n

If two teams are tied based on regular season record, a tiebreaker would be added to give a division winner an advantage. The No. 1 seed would still receive a bye for the first round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

NBC Sports’ Mike Florio<\/a>\u00a0reported that the Lions are submitting this proposal, but it comes at the request of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The intended goal would be to make more late-season games interesting.<\/p>\n

Using Detroit’s proposal, the 2024 playoff seeding in both conferences would have looked different than what played out in reality.<\/p>\n

NFC seeding in 2024:<\/p>\n

This format would’ve led to a much different wild-card round. Eagles-Rams would have happened a week earlier, Minnesota would’ve hosted Tampa Bay and the Commanders could’ve had a home playoff game for the first time since 2020.<\/p>\n

This proposal would help teams like Minnesota and Washington who couldn’t get past two of the best teams in the league in their divisions but were better in the regular season than other teams in weaker divisions.<\/p>\n
