He passed for 2,544 yards with 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions on a 61.4% completion percentage. He also ran for 477 yards and 10 touchdowns on 74 attempts as the Yellow Jackets finished 8-2.

Golmond’s 32 scoring passes broke the record of 27 set by Luke Lunsford.

For these reasons, Golmond was been selected The Advocate’s All-Metro large school offensive player of the year.

After a 2-2 start to the season, Denham Springs rolled past Southern Lab 41-14. Golmond finished with six total touchdowns and 239 yards passing, hitting on 20-of-26 attemps.

Before that game, Denham Springs coach Brett Beard had a simple message for his quarterback.

“Pull the trigger, let it rip and let’s go,” Beard said. “Just trust your eyes. I trust you.”

The win sparked a six-game winning streak to close out the year. The Yellow Jackets scored more than 60 points in two games, and more than 50 points in others during that stretch.

The successful finish helped Denham Springs win a share of the District 5-5A title with East Ascension.

In the team’s final game of the regular season, Denham Springs was tied 26-26 with St. Amant in the second half. Golmond engineered a run of 28 straight points to lead his team to a 54-26 win. He finished with five total touchdowns and 209 yards passing.

The Yellow Jackets entered the playoffs as the No. 4 seed, which was the school’s highest seeding since 1999 during the power rankings system era.

OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER, BLAINE BRADFORD, CATHOLIC HIGH

Catholic senior safety Blaine Bradford wreaked havoc on offenses all season long for the Bears.

The Bears allowed just 16.2 points per game in 13 games, and Bradford’s impact played a key role.

The hard-hitting defensive back finished the year with 60 total tackles, 49 solo tackles, two tackles for loss and one interception. He played key role in helping Catholic finish the year with a 10-3 record, a District 4-5A title and a Division I select semifinals finish.

For his efforts, Bradford was selected The Advocate’s All-Metro large school defensive player of the year.

Catholic coach Hudson Fuller noted Bradford’s maturity level and leadership as two aspects that stand out about him as a player.

“Just his maturity level from the day that I met him, you could tell he was a special kid,” Fuller said of the Ohio State signee. “He’s a phenomenal athlete, but more so, he’s a phenomenal person.”

Bradford anchored a defense that held uber-talented Edna Karr to 17 points in the Division I select semifinal. Despite losing the game 17-10, the seven-point margin was the closest game the eventual champion Cougars played all season against Louisiana high schools.

While he made several big-time plays on the field, he also looked to leave his mark off the field. One of the senior’s goals for his final season of high school football was to see the younger players grow as leaders throughout the year.

“If I see that,” Bradford said. “I feel like I’ve left my mark in the right way.”

Fuller reinforced Bradford as a leader on the team.

“He connects with all teammates on all levels,” Fuller said. “He leads from the front in a vocal way, but also just leads by example. He will be someone that, as we look back, had a profound influence on our program.”

COACH OF THE YEAR, HUDSON FULLER, CATHOLIC-BATON ROUGE

Catholic enjoyed another successful season under coach Hudson Fuller.

The Bears finished 10-3, won the District 4-5A title and made it to the Division I select semifinals.

After consecutive losses dropped Catholic to 3-2 midway through the season, he coached Catholic to five straight wins to close out the regular season and finished unbeaten in district play.

The Bears won all of their league games by double figures. In Catholic’s final three games of the regular season, the Bears notched wins over Scotlandville, Woodlawn and Zachary — all by more than 30 points.

Catholic won its first two playoff games by double figures.

ALL-METRO OFFENSE

DA’JEAN GOLMOND

QB Denham Springs, 6-1, 205, Sr.

WR DA’SEAN GOLMOND

Denham Springs, 6-1, 195, Sr.

WR CASH DAVIS

Live Oak, 6-0, 160, Jr.

WR ETHAN KIMMIE

Zachary, 6-3, 190, Jr.

RB ZAIDEN FOSTER

Liberty, 5-9, 205, Sr.

RB JAYDEN MILES

Catholic-Baton Rouge, 6-2, 203, Jr.

RB JOURDEN HICKERSON

St. Amant, 6-0, 185, Jr.

OL BLAISE THOMASSIE

Catholic-Baton Rouge, 6-4, 265, Sr.

OL REGGIE TRUSCLAIR

Plaquemine, 6-2, 268, Jr.

OL JAYDEN MICHAEL

Lutcher, 6-4, 300, Sr.

OL GRAHAM HARRIS

Central, 6-2, 300, Sr.

OL ENGLAND PHILLIPS

Dutchtown, 6-2, 290, Sr.

ATH PATRICK GALES

Brusly, 5-9, 173, Sr.

ATH BRYSTEN MARTINEZ

East Ascension, 6-6, 308, Sr.

ATH COOPER BABIN

St. Amant, 6-0, 180, Sr.

K BEN JONES

St. Michael, 6-1, 175, Sr.

ALL-METRO DEFENSE

DL DARREYUS SCOTT

Denham Springs, 5-10, 230, Sr.

DL CADEN PARQUETTE

Lutcher, 6-0, 250, Sr.

DL TYRONE MORGAN

Woodlawn, 6-3.5, 240, Sr.

DL RYAN JENKINS

Plaquemine, 5-11, 275, Sr.

LB DYLAN SHELMIRE

Zachary, 6-0, 215, Sr.

LB HARRISON KIDDER

Catholic-Baton Rouge, 6-1, 210, Sr.

LB JAKE JARREAU

Central, 5-8, 195, Sr.

LB CADEN ALLYN

Denham Springs, 5-10, 180, Sr.

DB BLAINE BRADFORD

Catholic-Baton Rouge, 6-1, 207, Sr.

DB RODERICK BINGHAM

Plaquemine, 6-1, 170, Sr.

DB MICAH LEVY

East Ascension, 6-1, 210, Jr.

DB CAYDEN RANDALL

Woodlawn, 6-0, 190, Sr.

FLEX JAVON JARIUS

East Ascension, 6-1, 175, Sr.

FLEX JOHN RUSSELL DEMOSS

Catholic-Baton Rouge, 5-11, 185, Sr.

RS/ATH JAYDEN URSIN

East Ascension, 6-2, 165, Jr.

P CHRISTIAN COSEY

Zachary, 6-2, 155, Sr.

ALL-METRO FOOTBALL CLASS 5A, 4A OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE PLAYER, DA’JEAN GOLMOND, DENHAM SPRINGS Denham Springs boasted one of the…

[2026
7,4095
0":"post-669001","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-hardwall
["GET
