In the second quarter, cornerback Carlton Davis left with what was later announced as a toe injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">He is officially questionable to return to the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Filling his usual role as the Patriots\u2019 starting outside cornerback opposite Pro Bowler Christian Gonzalez, Davis registered three tackles and a quarterback hit before leaving the game. That hit, coming on the Chargers\u2019 final offensive possession of the second quarter, was his final play before the exit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The 29-year-old came off the field after putting pressure on L.A. quarterback Justin Herbert, headed to the blue medical tent, and later departed for the locker room. New England\u2019s fourth cornerback, Charles Woods took over his role on defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Davis joined the Patriots on a three-year, $54 million free agency contract in March. Starting all 17 regular season games, he ranked second on the team with 926 defensive snaps.
