The Athletic’s Dane Brugler<\/a> recently put together a 2026 NFL mock draft. So who did the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> end up selecting?<\/p>\n

The Jaguars<\/a> will be without their first-round pick this year after trading it to Cleveland in the 2025 NFL draft in order to move up to select Travis Hunter.<\/p>\n

So Jacksonville’s first selection won’t come until the second round at pick No. 56 overall. And with that selection, Brugler has the Jaguars taking Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman.<\/p>\n

“The Jaguars will be addressing the secondary this offseason in multiple ways, and Thieneman could be an option because of his man-coverage skills and run-stopping ability,” Brugler wrote.<\/p>\n

Thieneman has experience in his career playing both deep safety and strong safety. This past year, most of his snaps came in the box.<\/p>\n

He logged two interceptions, four pass breakups, and gave up just 8.1 yards per catch, according to PFF.<\/a> Thieneman was a very reliable tackler as well.<\/p>\n

Brugler is right, the Jaguars will need to address the secondary this offseason, but the bigger need seems to be at cornerback.<\/p>\n

While Andrew Wingard is set to be a free agent, the Jaguars still have Eric Murray and Antonio Johnson under contract. GM James Gladstone also drafted Caleb Ransaw and Rayuan Lane in 2025.<\/p>\n

Not to say that the depth here couldn’t be added to, but I also don’t know if safety is a position that requires a second-round draft pick to be spent on it.<\/p>\n
