It didn’t take long for John Harbaugh to land on his feet.<\/p>\n
Just over a week after being fired by the Baltimore Ravens<\/a>, Harbaugh has agreed to become the next head coach<\/a> of the New York Giants<\/a>. The Super Bowl XLVII champion and 2019 AP NFL Coach of the Year will now switch from the AFC to the NFC, so his showdowns with Denver Broncos<\/a> coach Sean Payton will become less frequent.<\/p>\n Payton and Harbaugh overlapped with the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> in 1998, then Payton worked for the Giants<\/a> from 1999-2002. Payton was asked about Harbaugh landing in New York after Thursday’s practice.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, I saw that,” Payton said. “I haven\u2019t been in New York for years. I\u2019m real close with both the Maras and the Tisch family. I\u2019m excited for John. I consider him a close friend. Mike [Tomlin], the same way. It happened fast. I texted him earlier in the week, but then\u2026 He said, \u2018Hey, if I want to call you,\u2019 I said, \u2018Call, yes, at any time.\u2019 I think that moved quickly, and I\u2019m happy for him.<\/p>\n “I\u2019m happy for the Giants just for those years there. My first however many years in the league were Eagles<\/a>, Giants, Cowboys for quite a while. I say this, sometimes we can\u2019t control our bloodlines, where we end up. I\u2019ve been blessed when you look at the programs, and here now and the tradition. Sometimes you don\u2019t have control over that. So I\u2019m excited for him.\u201d<\/p>\n Need a news break?
