He clearly loves the game. He clearly is all about ball. He reminds me a lot of (Lions WR Amon-Ra) St. Brown,” said Johnson. “Another guy that I felt very similar about because he’s not just excellent at catching the football and route running, but he does everything.”

Johnson went on to describe Nakua’s best attributes, which are extremely similar to those of St. Brown, which Lions fans have grown accustomed to during his career thus far in the Motor City.

“He’s willing to put his nose in there and get his hands dirty in the running game,” Johnson said. “The versatility which he has. I mean, he’s in the box inserting through the B- and C-gaps, not only to block, but to run routes. I mean physical player, tough player and you can tell really a dependable player as well.”
____________________________________________________________

The Detroit Lions Defeated The Chicago Bears And Ben Johnson Twice This Season

While it may not count for much in the grand scheme of things, the Lions can take some amount of solace in knowing that they got the best of their former offensive coordinator, who departed after last season to take the job of one of their fiercest and most historic rivals.

At the same time, Lions fans who may still feel spurned by Johnson should remember that he had the opportunity to depart the Lions before the start of last season, but declined despite multiple offers.

Unfortunately, it’s just the nature of the business.

____________________________________________________________

Ben Johnson Loves What He Sees From Former Lions QB Matthew Stafford

While Johnson never coached Stafford while with the Lions, what he continues to accomplish with the Rams isn’t lost on him.

“I think he’s fundamentally sound and when you talk about the footwork, I think it starts therewith him. Then as you talk about an experienced player that sees the field really well, he understands defenses, he knows how to manipulate defenses,” Johnson said. “He’s got a great feel for the game and that translates to everything he does every single week. They’re very much a premier play operation.”

While in Detroit, Johnson and the Lions earned a victory over the Rams in what was Detroit’s first playoff victory in over three decades. Now, Johnson and the Bears will have the chance for a win over Stafford, which would put them in the NFC Championship Game against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

Michael Whitaker Michael Whitaker is a sports journalist based in metro Detroit with nearly a full decade of experience with publications like Clutch Points and The Hockey News.
