Then, Mike Tomlin stepped down as their head coach. That leaves them with a lot of uncertainty. However, the world doesn’t stop spinning as a result. The Steelers still have work to do, especially with the draft drawing closer. While they’re looking for their next head coach, they’re still meeting with draft prospects.

Draft Guy Jimmy of Draft Diamonds reported on Twitter that the Steelers were one of several teams that met with cornerback Dreyden Norwood at the Hula Bowl. Norwood started his college football career at Texas A&M in 2021, but he only saw action in three games there. He transferred to the University of Missouri, where he played for four years.

Now, he’s looking to make the leap to the NFL. The Hula Bowl is a college all-star game that gives NFL teams an early look at some prospects. It’s already been reported that the Steelers met with a few other players there. Norwood can be added to that list.

He already has a connection to the Steelers, too. His cousin, Tre Norwood, was a defensive back drafted in the seventh round by Pittsburgh in 2021, and he stuck with the team for two seasons.

The Steelers are getting a look at the younger Norwood now. He had a productive college career, too. He played in 13 games in three of the past four seasons, only dipping below that mark in 2023 when he played 12 games. During his time at Missouri, Norwood racked up 92 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, 15 passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries.

The Steelers have been interested in NFL bloodlines in past drafts. Perhaps that will help Norwood’s chances of landing with them. They should have plenty of draft capital.

However, it’s unclear how things will change with Tomlin gone. The Steelers’ next head coach might care less about Norwood’s cousin previously playing for the team. With the Steelers meeting with him, he’s a player to keep an eye on when the draft comes around. We’ll see if he follows in his cousin’s footsteps.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ season ended with a disappointing playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
