GREEN BAY \u2014 Whether the 20-photo montage Romeo Doubs posted on Instagram Thursday was meant as a digital farewell to his favorite teammates or simply a nostalgic look at his past four NFL seasons, only the Green Bay packers soon-to-be free-agent wide receiver can say for sure.<\/p>\n
But less than a week after the Packers\u2019 season-ending 31-27 NFC wild card playoff loss to the rival Chicago Bears \u2014 a game in which Doubs caught eight passes for 124 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets, and a game after which he sat in the visitors\u2019 locker room at Soldier Field in full uniform contemplating what might\u2019ve been his last time wearing the green and gold \u2014 it felt a lot like a goodbye.<\/p>\n
With a challenging salary-cap situation, three other veteran wide receivers (Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks) under contract for 2026 with the team having selected a pair of wide receivers in last year\u2019s NFL Draft \u2014 Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in the third \u2014 there may not be room on the roster for Doubs.<\/p>\n
Which Doubs surely knew as he sat in that locker, reflecting.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome in as a young kid from Los Angeles. Didn\u2019t expect to be in Green Bay,\u201d Doubs said that night. \u2018Just all the feels. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked what his time with the Packers had meant to him, Doubs replied, \u201cIt meant a lot. It meant a lot. I don\u2019t really have the words right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Doubs, a 2022 fourth-round pick out of Nevada, and Watson, a 2022 second-round pick from North Dakota State, are the Packers\u2019 longest tenured wide receivers and spent one year with four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, then the past three with Jordan Love.<\/p>\n
In his four seasons in Green Bay, Doubs has caught 202 passes for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns on 320 targets in 59 regular-season games (50 starts). Of his 202 receptions, 135 went for first downs.<\/p>\n
Incredibly, over those 59 games, Doubs never had a 100-yard game. But postseason Romeo is a different story.<\/p>\n
In four playoff games, he\u2019s caught 20 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns on 25 targets in four games (all starts) and 16 of his 20 catches have picked up first downs.<\/p>\n
Incredibly, Doubs never had a 100-yard game in the regular season, but he had two of them in his four postseason games \u2014 six catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in a 2023 wild card win over at Dallas, and his 124-yard game against the Bears last Saturday night.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, he was the reason we were in that game,\u201d Watson said of Doubs\u2019 performance against the Bears. \u201cI think he was the Romeo Doubs that I\u2019ve known since the moment I was at the Senior Bowl with him. He\u2019s just a dawg. He\u2019s a competitor.<\/p>\n
\u201cDay-in and day-out, practice, every single day of the week, whatever we\u2019re doing, he\u2019s competing. I saw exactly what I knew Romeo Doubs was capable of.\u201d<\/p>\n
Added Love: \u201cHim and Christian are those older guys, those guys you can lean on. They\u2019re going to know what they\u2019re doing every day and go out there and execute. That\u2019s Rome. He shows up every day ready to work, handles his business and then you see the results on the field. I think he\u2019s got some of the best hands I\u2019ve ever seen. So it\u2019s just a testament to all the work.\u201d<\/p>\n
While some fans may remember how Doubs no-showed for work early in the 2024 season and received a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team, there were no indications this season that he was anything other than fully committed to the team and accepting of his role\u2014heading into an uncertain future.<\/p>\n
