The New York Jets<\/a> will not be drafting Oregon quarterback Dante Moore<\/a> at No. 2 overall in the 2026 NFL draft. That’s been the expectation, but Moore announced his decision to return to the Ducks<\/a> next season. The Jets must now pivot to an alternative plan at quarterback<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Darren Mougey could still decide to draft a QB in 2026. It just won’t be with the second overall selection. We’ve identified the Jets’ best remaining options at QB via the draft following Moore’s decision to go back to Oregon.<\/p>\n

Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss<\/p>\n

Ole Miss<\/a>‘ Trinidad Chambliss was outstanding throughout the College Football Playoff<\/a>. Chambliss is attempting to\u00a0apply for another year of eligibility<\/a>,\u00a0but if his waiver is declined, he’ll be forced to enter the 2026 NFL draft. He’s an underdog to elevate his pre-draft stock into the first-round conversation.<\/p>\n

Ty Simpson, Alabama<\/p>\n

Alabama’s Ty Simpson did declare for the draft despite having remaining eligibility. He immediately becomes most scouts’ QB2 in this draft following Moore’s decision. Simpson is inexperienced, but he was outstanding in September and October for the Crimson Tide. The Jets may have to target him at No. 16 overall if they want him.<\/p>\n

Garrett Nussmeier was once viewed as a potential No. 1 overall selection. He failed to meet expectations, and the Brian Kelly disaster at LSU derailed the trajectory of the program.
