In a recent mock draft from Pro Football Network<\/a>, the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> addressed the cornerback position.<\/p>\n

After trading up for Travis Hunter in last year’s draft, the Jaguars<\/a> do not have a first-round pick in 2026. So the team’s first pick will come in the second round at 56th overall.<\/p>\n

With that selection, PFN’s Jacob Infante<\/a> had the Jaguars addressing the cornerback spot, taking Xavier Scott from Illinois.<\/p>\n

“Xavier Scott stands out to me as a high-floor nickel cornerback who can also play out wide or as a safety,” wrote Infante. “He doesn\u2019t have elite physical tools, but has sharp route-recognition skills, good fluidity in coverage, and ideal physicality as a tackler.”<\/p>\n

That versatility will certainly be appreciated in Anthony Campanile’s defensive scheme. Of note, however, most of Scott’s snaps did come in the slot. With Jourdan Lewis and Jarrian Jones on the roster, the Jaguars do need more of an outside presence.<\/p>\n

Scott played in only three games this past season, due to a lower leg injury.<\/a> However, he played over 700 snaps in each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons.<\/p>\n

For his career, he’s allowed a completion rate of just 56% at 11.6 yards per catch with six interceptions and 15 pass breakups, according to PFF<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Montaric Brown and Greg Newsome are both set to be free agents this offseason. Building up the cornerback depth will have to be on the to-do list for GM James Gladstone.<\/p>\n
