But the former Lions quarterback was promoted to offensive coordinator in Washington. Robinson’s reported scheduled interview also came after this week’s podcast was recorded.

MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast discusses the candidates, what the Lions might need and be looking for, and some internal options. Hosts Kory Woods and Ben Raven also field a handful of reader-submitted questions for this week’s fresh offseason episode.

Raven went through some of the external names and others who might become available with league-wide coaching movement, and couldn’t stop thinking about what a new set of eyes might bring to the equation.

“I’m at the point now where it’s like, get somebody new,” Raven said. “I don’t care if they’ve crossed paths with Dan (Campbell) or not. If they click in the meeting, if they click in the interviews, he agrees with their mentality and what they want to do with his offense, then go for it. Because I think that’s what they need is a little freshness, a new set of eyes.”

When it comes to Campbell continuing to call the plays or not, Woods is of the opinion that the coach is better as the overseeing CEO type. Campbell has taken over for two play-callers in five seasons. This time around, the defense slipped down the stretch, and it’s arguably the coach’s eyes would have been better served elsewhere instead of stuck on the play sheet.

The guys also answered questions about the interview process, defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s interview in Miami, some of the other staff interviews and more extension talk ahead of a busy offseason.

See below to listen to the latest Dungeon of Doom podcast.
