Texas Longhorns<\/a> running back Jaydon Blue is headed to the Dallas Cowboys.<\/a><\/p>\n

Dallas selected Blue with the 149th pick in the 2025 NFL draft. He\u2019s the second offensive player taken by Dallas this year, joining first-round lineman Tyler Booker.<\/p>\n

The Houston native split time with DeSoto<\/a> standout Quintrevion Wisner in the Longhorns backfield last season, putting up 730 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground. He was also a significant contributor in the passing game, racking up 368 yards and 6 touchdowns through the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means a lot it still feels surreal,\u201d he said. \u201cI always wanted to play in my home state for the Cowboys, especially America\u2019s Team. To come and draft me it means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

His receiving abilities were a big part of Texas\u2019 offense in the 2025 Cotton Bowl against Ohio State. In fact, his two touchdowns catches were the Longhorns\u2019 only two scores that night against the eventual national champion Buckeyes.<\/p>\n

Blue said he did plenty of pre-draft work as a wide receiver to show scouts he was a versatile player. <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI take a lot of pride being able to run routes and catch the ball,\u201d Blue said. \u201cA lot of my workouts are receiver stuff and I do that because some of the running back stuff is natural for me and not a lot of backs can run routes like a receiver or catch the ball as well as I can. So I take a lot of pride of doing all of those things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blue joins a crowded Cowboys backfield, which includes free agent signees Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. Hunter Luepke, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis round out the depth chart.<\/p>\n

The starter most likely will be determined in training camp. Blue has a nice opportunity to emerge in a possible rotation. Having played in Texas he learned plenty sitting behind Bijan Robinson (2023 first-round pick, No. 8 overall) and Jonathon Brooks (2024 second-round pick). <\/p>\n

\u201cIt meant a lot to play behind those guys,\u201d Blue said. \u201cNot only great football players but great guys, they taught me a lot of things on and off the field. They were great when it came to football, they taught me a lot of things, I looked up to them so they put me on a lot of games [and] to see them get drafted two years ago and me doing the same thing now, it means the world to me.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Cowboys didn\u2019t have a fourth-round pick, thanks to a trade last season with Carolina which netted them wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. The Panthers, which had pick No. 114, selected Georgia running back Trevor Etienne. <\/p>\n

The fourth round saw six running backs taken. <\/p>\n

Three Longhorns were selected in the first round and another was taken by the Cowboys.<\/p>\n
