For the third time in the Matt LaFleur era, the Packers are on the hunt for a defensive coordinator.<\/p>\n
LaFleur walked into the Packers\u2019 job with an arranged marriage to Mike Pettine, but he\u2019s had two opportunities since to hire his own man. The first one came down to a choice between Jim Leonhard, Joe Barry, and Ejiro Evero, and after Leonhard (reportedly) declined an offer, LaFleur made one of the worst 50\/50 calls imaginable.<\/p>\n
He got it right the second time around, picking Jeff Hafley out of a crowded field of candidates, many of whom have gone on to success elsewhere. Now he\u2019s got a chance to do something we haven\u2019t really seen from LaFleur to this point: make two good coordinator hires in a row.<\/p>\n
Can he do it? The field of candidates certainly looks fairly strong, but there\u2019s no guarantee that even a good candidate will work out. But the pressure\u2019s on LaFleur to get this call right, else this supposed Super Bowl window might close even harder and faster.<\/p>\n
